How to Use

It’s more than color. It’s a work of art.

Because different parts of your hair take in color differently, Vidal Sassoon created Salonist, a revolutionary 2-step method that treats your roots and lengths separately. The result is stunning, seamlessly blended color with lots of depth and tones.

PREP

To begin, empty Tube 1 and Bottle 1 into the bowl and mix until smooth.

PRO TIP: For long, thick hair use two boxes of Salonist 6/3 Light Gold Brown hair color.

Then, using the tip of the brush to part your hair, divide it into ½-inch sections along the hairline.

STEP 1: BRUSH ROOTS

Take ¾ of your mixture and brush the rich 6/3 Light Gold Brown color cream into your hairline. Massage your roots to ensure even coverage.

Because 6/3 Light Gold Brown is a standard shade, leave the color in for 20 minutes.

Prep for Step 2 by adding the Sassoon Serum in Tube 2 to the color cream still in the bowl. There should be about ¼ left.

PRO TIP: If you did not use ¾ of the product in Step 1, remove the excess product before adding serum.

STEP 2: BLEND THROUGH LENGTHS

Scoop the new mixture out of the bowl and smooth and blend thoroughly through your hair, all the way to the ends. Massage the color all over, even at the roots for the best coverage.

Because 6/3 Light Gold Brown is a standard shade, wait 10 minutes.

FINISH

Wash hair with a color-safe shampoo, rinse and then apply Salonist Color Preserving Conditioner. Leave in for two minutes, then rinse again.

PRO TIP: Use Color Preserving Conditioner for every day washes to make color last longer.

Gray is 99.5% gone

I received the Vidal Sassoon Salonist 2 step hair color for free in exchange for my honest opinion & review. Prior to this, I had only heard of it, so getting to try this was wonderful way to try a quality product. I chose to receive the Light Gold Brown because this sounded as close to the Honey Blonde color that I was used to. My hair is naturally black, but I love to give it a sun-kissed light reddish color. The application process was simple & self explanatory. Addtionally, the direction sheet had step by step pictures to go along with each step. The pictures ensured that I was going the steps properly before moving on to the next step. The directions included were the best ones that I have ever come across when it comes to color-at-home kits. Thank you Vidal. The smell of the colorizing cream was strong & ammonia like, but all semi & permanent dyes all have that smell. They included a bowl of sorts for you to mix the solutions into, along with a brush (paint brush like) very much like a professional would use. I loved using the brush instead of squirting the cream on. In the 2 step process, you first apply it (paint it on) to the roots of your hair & then along your hairline. After 20 minutes, you add the serum to the remaining dye & you work it through the rest of your hair for another 10 minutes. You then shampoo your hair with a color safe shampoo & use the conditioner that they supply. The Colour Preserving Condidtion smelled ok, but felt wonderfully thick & smoothing. You could feel your hair detangling within seconds of applying it. Before my hair was even dry, I could feel how much more softer it felt. Results - The color was darker that what I am used to, but still looked like I had it done at a salon. Almost all of my gray was gone except for a few stubborn hairs. Since my hair has always had a hard time ridding itself of the grays, I was happy just to have been left with a few - and you have to know that they were there in the first place. The only negative was that Vidal should've suggested to use Vaseline to the hairline & to make sure that the dye doesn't come in contact with ANYTHING. In addition to my hairline area, my neck had splotches of brown, as did my arm (above the gloves), the sink & counter. I thought enough to wear something that I didn't mind getting stained & I'm glad I did because stain it did. Just a cautionary note before the instructions would help others tremendously & would avoid any permanent discolorings. I was able to scrub the stains from my skin & sink, but am still working on the counter. Overall, I would highly recommend this Salonist to any & all of my friends & family. It does offer that salon like treatment by treating the roots first & then working on the rest of the hair.

Vidal Sassoon Salonist - A Revolution in Color

So, I received the new Vidal Sassoon Salonist hair color system from the company and I set out to try it. I chose the medium brown with gold highlights. My hair is normally very black but I had been coloring in red. First off, I loved the detailed instructions and colorful pictures in the enclosed guide. This made everything so simple and easy. I did the new growth first, waited the required time, and then did the rest of the length of my hair. The results were stunning! I had the same color throughout the entire length. No ombre here! I exactly got the rich medium brown color with the gold pop. Furthermore, my hair felt conditioned. It didn't feel stripped. Loved the results all around. Will be staying with this one!

Vidal Sassoon Salonist Permanent Color Review

After being sent a sample box of their newest hair color to review from Vidal Sassoon, I have changed my hair color again and here are my thoughts. Before opening the box, I read the back and the instructions inside so I could estimate how much time I would need and how to set out all the ingredients inside. I am quite experienced in coloring my own hair at home, so this was not new for me, just different. There are 2 products both marked "1" that first must be mixed in the pan with a root applicator brush (all included in the box). It says to apply 3/4 of this first mixture to your roots, but since I was going from platinum blonde to a light brunette I only used about 2/3 of the product so I had more to cover my longer hair. Apply with the root applicator brush then you need to let it sit for 20 minutes for the next step, 30 if you are going blonde, but if I did it again, I would leave it for 30 minutes when going from very light to very dark as well. (Just my opinion) Now you are ready for the next step, adding the tube marked "2" which is a serum for coloring the length of the hair which usually needs to be colored differently so it does not need to be on as long. This step can be applied with your fingers and left on for about 10 minutes. I left mine on a little longer to get it darker, but if you are staying close to the same color you will not need to leave your in longer. After you finish with this step, you will need to rinse out the color and shampoo out your hair. Once you no longer see color being rinsed out, apply the tub marked "3" which is a color sealer and conditioner. You are then free to style as usual. It is a few more steps but I was very happy with my result and will definitely do this again.
